Unique Character
The unique character of Primo Estate wine combines modern Australian ingenuity and Italian heritage. Primo Estate is recognised as an innovator and leader in the field of Italian varieties. They also produce a fine range of award winning, premium olive oils. In 2006, Primo Estate opened McLaren Vale’s most stylish new cellar door and tasting room, combining ultra modern design and Mediterranean lifestyle. Primo Location & History Primo Grilli first arrived in Australia from Italy’s Le Marche region. He brought with him a vision of growing Italian grape varieties in the sun soaked new land. He recognised the grape growing potential of South Australia’s warm summers and cooling maritime influence that were similar to his homeland. Primo planted the family's first vineyard, at Virginia in 1973. Primo Estate has now grown to include vineyards in Clarendon and McLaren Vale. Primo's eldest son, Joseph, studied Oenology at South Australia's legendary Roseworthy College. Joe graduated dux of his class in 1978 and began as winemaker in 1979. Joe Grilli sought to create revolutionary wines from his very first vintage at the young age of just 20 years. Joe now runs Primo Estate with his wife, Dina. Primo Wine Styles & Labels The Joseph wine range is where Primo Estate fully explores the art of winemaking. Handcrafted in tiny quantities, no expense is spared in the creation of the new modern classics. The Primo and Co. range is Italian made and bottled, Australian inspired. Labels include: Primo Estate, Joseph Range and Primo and Co.
